 WHAT IS HOLISTIC HEALING?

Holistic healing is a term that encompasses many types of philosophies of healing. The holistic philosophy can be thought of as one of prevention and wellness, not of sickness and disease care. Holistic healing can be used alone or in conjunction with other therapies.

Holistic comes from the word "whole" and represents treating the whole person, not just the condition or symptom that is being presented.

Other terms that you will see that fit under the term of holistic healing are:

Alternative Medicine
Named for being the "alternative" to traditional western medicine, many people refer to many types of holistic healing as medicine due, in part, to its healing effect and allowing the body to have and show less symptoms.

Complementary Medicine
Many in the traditional western field use this term as they view many holistic modalities helpful in treating conditions and ailments in conjunction with traditional western treatments.

CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine)
A term that the western medical model uses to refer to the combination of these first two. It is defined by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) as "medical and health care systems, practices and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine."

Body/Mind or Body/Mind/Spirit Connection
Some refer to this as the link between that which is more than what is physical.  In this holistic philosophy, you can heal yourself through any or all of these areas: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social, and/or sexual.

Energetic Healing
Science tells us that all we are is energy. Tapping into the energy field around the body (sometimes referred to as "energy bodies") and releasing and balancing the energy has shown positive healing results on the physical, as well as the emotional and mental, parts of us.

Intuitive Healing
Many people work within the philosophy that everything is connected and that you can tap into the energy of the body through symbols, thoughts, feelings, images, etc by using a part of our senses not commonly tapped.  Some believe that as we continue to evolve, our "sixth sense" or intuitive ability heightens and we can more easily access this connectivity between energies.

Esoteric or Spiritual Readings
This philosophy is based on the body and mind working in several dimensions concurrently. Getting affirmations or messages may help us tap into our higher selves and give us direction or peace in many areas of our lives.

These may all be based on different philosophies and interpretations, but essentially
they have the same goal: to allow us to heal all parts of our selves.

HOLISTIC HEALING
We use this term because we believe that it recognizes all of the above pieces,
focusing on that which makes us whole and connected.
